I recently bought the 2026 Triumph Speed 400 in one of the new colors.
Honestly, this was the very first thing that came to mind when I saw it:

“Wow… this bike is really beautiful.”

It already looked good in photos, but in person, it looked even better.
It is not just “nice-looking” in a simple way. It has a genuinely premium feel.
The overall design, the finish, and the presence of the bike all feel refined.

It has that classic Triumph character that is not too loud and not too flashy, but still makes people look twice.
It feels a little like that person who dresses simply, but somehow still looks like the most stylish one in the room.
That is exactly the kind of vibe the Speed 400 gives.

The new 2026 colors make it even more attractive

The 2026 version of the Speed 400 comes with new color options, and that makes it even more fun to look at.
It was already a beautiful motorcycle to begin with, but the new colors make it feel fresh again.

One of the best things about the Speed 400 is that it has a classic roadster style, so it is not the kind of bike that quickly looks outdated.
It is not just the type of bike that looks good at first glance.
The longer you look at it, the more you appreciate it.

Some motorcycles are like that.
At first, you think, “Wow, that looks amazing.”
Then later, you find yourself thinking, “Yes… this is still the one I like most.”
The Speed 400 is exactly that kind of bike.

It also looks great with simple, comfortable outfits

Another thing I really like about this bike is that it goes so well with casual clothing.

Some motorcycles look so aggressive and sporty that they only seem to match if you are wearing full riding gear from head to toe.
But the Speed 400 feels different.

It looks great with jeans, a casual jacket, light boots, and everyday clothes.
You do not need to look like you are heading to a racetrack just to match the bike.
It feels natural, stylish, and easy to wear.

It gives off that kind of feeling where someone asks:

“Are you going for a ride?”
“No, I’m just going out for coffee, but the bike makes it look like a whole photo shoot.”

Now I really understand why so many people love classic-style motorcycles.
They do not feel too intense, and they fit naturally into everyday life.

My husband is riding it for now… but I definitely have a share in it too

My current bike is a Honda Monkey 125.
And with the Korean license I currently have, I can only legally ride motorcycles up to 125cc.

So for now, I cannot properly ride the Triumph Speed 400 yet.
I plan to ride it later after I get the correct license here in Korea.
At the moment, my husband is the one using it.

So if I explain the situation simply, it looks like this:

Monkey125 → I can ride it

Speed400 → my husband is riding it for now

But the down payment → came from my money

So the conclusion is → I definitely have a share in this bike too

So it is not really accurate to call it only my husband’s bike.
I paid the down payment, so I clearly have a stake in it too.
Of course, my husband paid the remaining balance.

So if I describe the situation in the most realistic way possible, it would be this:

“I have a share in it, but I do not have the license yet.”

It is honestly such a funny situation.
I was the first one to fall in love with the bike, I was the first one to put money into it, and emotionally I was attached to it first…
but right now, my husband is the one actually riding it.

It feels a little like this:
I was the first one to claim a beautiful thing, but for now, someone else has the user rights.

Still, I feel very confident about my position.
Because this bike has my emotions and my down payment in it.
So legally, my husband may have the stronger position for now,
but emotionally, it already feels almost like my bike.

In my mind, I have already organized it like this:

“We are co-owners, but the riding rights are temporarily leased to my husband.”

And I keep telling myself:

I just need the license.
I just need the license.
I just need the license…
and then it will finally be my turn to ride it properly.

At around 160 cm tall, I still felt like it would be manageable for me

When I sat on the Speed 400, I noticed right away that it is not an especially low bike.
It does feel a little tall, yes, but not at all in an impossible way.

I am around 160 cm tall, and it felt like with shoes that have a little bit of sole or heel height, I could manage it.
Of course, body proportions and leg length make a difference for every rider,
but it definitely did not feel like, “No, this bike is just too tall for me.”

It felt much more like:

“Hmm… I think I could do this once I get used to it.”

And honestly, that matters a lot for beginners.
Sometimes the actual feeling when you sit on a bike matters more than the numbers on the spec sheet.

The Triumph Speed 400 also has very solid specs

The Speed 400 is not just about looks.
Its specs are also very well balanced.

Main specifications

Engine: 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder

Power: around 40 horsepower

Torque: around 37.5 Nm

Transmission: 6-speed

Weight: around 170 kg

Seat height: around 790 mm

Fuel tank: around 13 L

That is honestly a very good combination.
It is not underpowered, but it is also not overly intimidating.
It is not too heavy either, which makes it a very attractive option for someone moving up to a larger motorcycle.

So the Speed 400 is not only a beautiful motorcycle,
but also a well-made and beginner-friendly one.

Around 40 horsepower is not something to dismiss

Some people might say,
“It is only a 400cc bike, so it must just be a beginner bike.”

But honestly, the Speed 400 should not be underestimated.

Around 40 horsepower is enough to keep city riding from feeling dull,
and it is also enough to make the bike enjoyable on more open roads outside the city.

At the same time, it is not the kind of bigger motorcycle that feels overwhelmingly powerful and intimidating right from the start.

And that is one of its best qualities.

For someone stepping into a bigger bike for the first time,
it is nice to have enough power to make riding exciting,
without feeling like the bike is trying to scare you.
That is where the Speed 400 really shines.

Being a single-cylinder bike also helps with fuel efficiency and everyday practicality

Because the Speed 400 uses a single-cylinder engine,
one of its nice advantages is fuel efficiency.

Of course, actual fuel consumption will still depend on riding style, traffic, and road conditions,
but engines like this are generally known for being practical and efficient.

It also has its own kind of character.
The feel is more direct, more straightforward, and easier to appreciate, especially for newer riders.

That makes it a great motorcycle for someone who wants to learn properly,
but also something that still feels enjoyable even after you get more experienced.

It is beginner-friendly, but it does not look like “just a beginner bike”

I honestly think this is one of the biggest strengths of the Speed 400.

Some beginner bikes are practical and perfectly good,
but sometimes they can look a little plain, or feel very obviously “entry-level.”

The Speed 400 does not feel like that.

The design is attractive.
The brand image is strong.
The finish looks premium.
And the performance does not feel lacking.

That makes it the kind of bike that a beginner can love,
but that more experienced riders can also appreciate and respect.

In simple words:

“It is beginner-friendly, but it does not look like it is only for beginners.”

And that is a very big advantage.

Proper safety gear is a must

And this is something I really want to say clearly.

Style matters, yes.
But safety matters more.

Sometimes in the Philippines, you still see people riding motorcycles in slippers and without helmets.
That really should not happen.

A motorcycle is not like a car where your body has more protection around it.
If something goes wrong, your body is exposed immediately.

That is why you should always wear a helmet.
It is also much better to wear gloves, proper shoes, and if possible, a riding jacket too.

Slippers in particular are really not appropriate for riding.
They may feel easy and convenient, but they offer no real protection.

That line people say,
“I’m only going out for a short ride anyway,”
can easily become the most dangerous kind of situation.

Riding a motorcycle is enjoyable,
but getting home safely is even more important.
Real riding style is not just about the bike or the outfit.
It is also about being responsible.

It makes me look forward even more to the day I can ride it myself

Overall, the 2026 Triumph Speed 400 is a motorcycle that is stylish, classy, and premium-looking,
but its appeal does not stop there.

It also has good performance, reasonable weight, beginner-friendly character, and a practical engine setup.
So for people who want to move into a bigger bike without feeling overwhelmed,
this is a very attractive option.

For now, I still cannot fully enjoy it because I need the proper license here in Korea first.
But even so, I can already feel this:

This is not just a bike that looks good.
It is the kind of bike you want to take care of and keep for a long time.

And honestly, it feels like my Monkey125 is already saying this to me:

“Sis… yes, the Speed 400 is nice. But get the license first before the feelings.”

Let me confess first: Joana is still in training mode on the Monkey 125.We’re talking basics—start, stop, low-speed balance, U-turns… […]

Let me confess first: Joana is still in training mode on the Monkey 125.
We’re talking basics—start, stop, low-speed balance, U-turns… the kind of practice where you sweat a little and the bike basically says:

“Balance first, confidence later.”
(My Monkey feels like it whispers every day: “Ate… chill.” )

Then I saw the BMW R 1300 RT in the showroom and—bestie—
it felt like:

“I’m still in the tutorial… but they just showed me the final boss.”
“And the final boss has CRAZY aura.”

1) What is the R 1300 RT? “Business class in the touring world”

The RT has one clear mission:
Make long rides more comfortable and more safe.

Big windscreen → less wind = less neck/shoulder fatigue

Comfort-focused seat & riding position → the “I can survive all day in the saddle” vibe

Storage (side cases/top box depending on setup) → ready for real travel

Electronics → helps you stay calm, stable, and less stressed

In short:
This is a serious travel-goals motorcycle.

2) How’s the performance? “Not just fast—smart and stable”

This isn’t a bike that only flexes power.
Its real charm is: a big bike that moves intelligently and feels planted.

1300cc-class thick torque
→ not the “WAAAH!” surprise
→ more like a confident “okay, let’s go” smooth push

High-speed stability
→ the kind that makes long touring feel natural

Riding modes / traction control / ABS and other electronics
→ like an extra safety net while you level up

Basically, the RT is saying:
“I can take you far… and you won’t cry from exhaustion.”
“300 km today?”
RT: “That’s just warm-up.”

3) But why can’t I ride it right now? (Reality check)

Not because it’s “too much” in a bad way…
but because I’m still Monkey 125 level.

With a touring bike like this:

it’s big and has real weight
→ low-speed control, stops, and U-turns are the true exam

if your balance slips at low speed…
you’ll hear “uh?” and then…
bike + pride + tomorrow’s muscle pain all go down together

It’s like the RT is gently telling me:
“You’re adorable… but graduate with the Monkey first.”

4) Still… it’s my goal. So what do I need to do?

1) Master low-speed skills on the Monkey 125

smooth start/stop

U-turns, figure 8s, slow control drills

rear brake control to keep the bike stable
For big bikes, slow control matters more than “going fast.”

2) Do the “weight training” stage

Jumping straight to a 1300 touring bike is not the safest move.
Better to step up gradually with mid-level weight first.

3) Build a training routine / take lessons

vision & head turn (you go where you look)

basic cornering

emergency braking
When you learn these, skills go up… and fear goes down.

4) Gear isn’t “for style”—it’s for courage

Boots, gloves, protectors…
Not just to “avoid falling,”
but so that even if you do fall, you can get up and try again.

Final one-liner (Joana-style)

The BMW R 1300 RT isn’t “my bike right now”… but it is my future goal.
For now, it’s Monkey time.
Then one day, I’ll come back to the RT and say:

“Hello RT… tutorial complete. I’m ready.”

The day I told myself, “Alright—time to do proper city riding,” I hopped on my Monkey 125. Small. Cute. Obviously […]

The day I told myself, “Alright—time to do proper city riding,” I hopped on my Monkey 125.

Small. Cute. Obviously born for fun rides.

The only problem?
The more fun it is, the more “oops” moments a beginner collects.

And what’s extra annoying is that my “oops” moments always show up with perfectly dramatic timing:
right behind a car, at a red light, on an uphill, with people watching.

It’s like the road is an exam…
and the Monkey is the proctor.

1) “Stopped… but still in 2nd gear?” — The 2nd-gear start that instantly dies

I stopped neatly, perfect distance behind the car in front.

“Okay… I’m getting good,” my brain said.

Then I realized—
I was still in 2nd gear.

Classic beginner logic:

“I can do this… you can start in 2nd… right? (maybe?)”

I slowly released the clutch, added a tiny bit of throttle…

Vrrr… tsk.
Dead.

The silence after that? Brutal.
Suddenly everything feels slow-motion in the middle of the city.

The car in front is already gone.
The car behind me is radiating that “Uh… hello?” pressure.

And there I am, talking to myself inside my helmet:

“Ah… it was 2nd gear… sorry, Monkey…”

The Monkey stays quiet.
But when I restart, it’s like it’s saying, “Okay. Try again.”

Lesson of the day:

When you stop, check: 1st gear

As a beginner, don’t “maybe it’ll work.” Do the sure thing: 1st-gear start.

2) 3rd → 2nd downshift, then “JERK!” (even my heart downshifted)

I’m cruising, chill, enjoying the wind.
Then the car ahead slows down a bit.

“Okay, engine brake… 3rd to 2nd… should be smooth…”

I downshift—
but my clutch release was awkward,
my throttle didn’t match,
and my speed was higher than I thought…

Result?

JERK. THUD.
The Monkey basically reacts like: “Huh? What are we doing today?”

That’s when I realized:
Downshifting isn’t just “going down a gear.”
It’s a dance. Timing. Rhythm.

Beginner downshift energy:

Me: “2nd gear, let’s go!”
Monkey: “Hold on—your RPMs don’t match!”
Then it answers with its whole body: “JERK.”

Lesson of the day:

Downshift = clutch timing + road speed + engine RPM

Rush it, and the Monkey will complain… in body-language form

3) Stop on an uphill, then start again: “Why are you HERE, uphill?!”

This is the boss level: stop on an incline… then take off again.

As a beginner, your brain feels like it lags for two seconds.

I stopped uphill, distance was fine, everything looked okay.
Time to go again…

Slow clutch release, a little throttle…

Vroom… vroom… tsk.
Dead again.

More embarrassing than flat ground—because uphill adds the extra fear:

“What if I roll back?”

So your whole body goes tense.

Restart attempt, panic thoughts:

“Am I being too gentle with the clutch?”
“Am I not giving enough gas?”
“Or… is my Monkey trolling me now?”

But honestly, the Monkey is kind of smart—before it gets worse, it gives you that little warning tsk first.

Like it’s saying:
“This is where you need a more confident clutch… and a bit more throttle.”

Lesson of the day:

Uphill start: find the biting point / friction zone

Throttle: not the “tiny bit because I’m scared”—the amount you actually need

Beginner priority: calm first, not perfect

4) Why do my mistakes still somehow feel “fun” on the Monkey?

Let’s be real: stalling is embarrassing.
Jerky shifts hurt your ego.
Uphill? Instant sweat mode.

But the Monkey 125 is weird in the best way—
because it still makes me laugh.

It’s light, honest, and gives super clear feedback.
My mistakes don’t become “trauma.” They become mini-lessons.

And the Monkey feels like it has a face:

When it stalls: “Okay. Again.”
When the takeoff is smooth: “OHHH nice—progress!”

So my cycle stays fast:

mess up → understand why → try again → succeed → have fun again

That’s what “fun driving optimized” really means:
Even if you’re a beginner, it won’t let you lose your joy.

5) One line I learned today

“You shift gears with your foot… but smoothness is made by your hands—and your heart.”

Next city ride, I’m sure there’ll be another tsk somewhere.
But it’s fine. The Monkey isn’t judging me.

It’s like it’s saying:

“Start again. This time—gentler… and more confident.”

Quick safety note

If you’re a beginner, practice stop-and-go, clutch control, and uphill starts in a quiet area before jumping into traffic.

Being sure and calm matters more than being “fast.”

If you’ve ever ridden a Honda Monkey 125 and thought, “This bike is perfect,” you’re absolutely right.

If you’ve ever ridden a Honda Monkey 125 and thought, “Wait… am I in 3rd or 4th?” you’re also absolutely right.

Because here’s the thing: the Monkey is charming, simple, and proudly old-school in the cutest way.
But sometimes you’re cruising—wind is vibing, mood is perfect—then you go for that one more upshift you swear exists…

…and the bike politely informs you, surprise: you’ve been in top gear for the last 10 minutes.

So yeah. I decided to give my little banana-on-wheels one tiny modern superpower:

A Gear Position Indicator (GPI).

Not because I need it.
Because I want my Monkey to be future-ready… but still polite.

Why a Gear Indicator actually makes so much sense on the Monkey 125

Let’s be honest: the Monkey’s personality is minimalist happiness.

It’s not trying hard.
It’s not pretending to be a superbike.
It’s basically saying:

“Come on. Hop on. Let’s have fun.”

But my one wish—especially in city traffic and casual cruising—was having that quick confirmation of what gear I’m actually in.

A GPI is helpful for:

Smoother stop-and-go traffic (less guessing, fewer awkward shifts)

Better gear choice on hills (stop torturing the engine, babe)

Cleaner cruising (no more counting shifts like it’s math homework)

More confidence for new riders (because “I think it’s 3rd” is not comforting )

Basically, it upgrades the Monkey from
“cute retro buddy” to “cute retro buddy who can count to five.”

What the installation feels like

It feels like you gave your pet a smart collar.

The bike is just sitting there like:

“Hello?? I’m already cute. Why are you upgrading me?”

And you’re like:

“Because you deserve technology, anak.”

Depending on the kit, the process usually goes like this:

Tap into the signal wires
(RPM / speed / ignition signals—depends on the model)

Route and tidy the cables
(because we’re classy, we don’t do chaotic wiring )

Mount the display where you can actually see it

Calibrate it — and this is the funniest part

Calibration is basically a tutoring session

Calibration feels like you’re teaching your Monkey like it’s a tiny student:

“Okay buddy… this is 1st. Memorize it.”
“Good. 2nd. Focus.”
“Now 3rd. Don’t get distracted.”
“4th. Stay with me.”
“5th… Congrats. You’re educated now.”

And the ECU is probably like:

“Oh… it’s school day today.”

The first ride after install

Honestly? Weirdly… luxurious.

Not “BMW touring bike luxury.”
More like:

“I added extra cheese to my ramen… I’m a rich girl now” luxury.

You glance down and you see:

3

And suddenly your brain goes quiet.

No more guessing.
No more counting.
No more “Is this 4th or 5th?” every 30 seconds.

Just:

throttle
road
vibes
and a tiny number telling you the truth

It’s like my Monkey gained a tiny digital voice that whispers:

“You’re in 4th, king.”
